Who is Woolly Truckle?
That would be me, Mel. This is me enjoying a nice walk in the countryside, trying to forget the million and one things on my to-do list, I bet you can relate to that!
Why did it happen?
Woolly Truckle was born out of frustration, like most good ideas are. I had taught myself to crochet and had no problem finding patterns I liked, but the truth of it was I’d end up with a finished item that whilst nice wasn’t actually something I would wear, use or display. They were never quite right somehow. I craved making things that suited my style, my home and my preferred colour tones. In the end I did what some people will always do and that is created something myself that fulfilled my own needs. I like vintage touches, but I also like modern – a typical Aquarian if I believed in these things. I like the invention of modernity whilst also using the past for inspiration, thus Woolly Truckle is old, but also new, a pastiche but also original, cosy and warm but also fresh and bright.
How did it happen?
All of the sensational makes and designs in magazines, popular blogs and Instagram accounts are a fertile ground for inspiration, so I started tweaking here and adjusting there – sometimes a colour, other times a stitch until eventually I realised I was designing from scratch and generating ideas that I hadn’t seen elsewhere. Sometimes these ideas are a complete disaster or they just sit on the backburner for ages, but ideas they are, not even mine anymore, I even think of them as Woolly Truckle Ideas. Once I’d decided that I needed to build these ideas into something more, I started wondering how I could incorporate other favourite things like rummage sales and ferreting out little vintage gems. Let me be perfectly straight with you, I do not NEED any more vintage gems, I have enough. In fact I have a houseful. But I don’t want to stop looking, so this how Woolly Truckle has ended up with Magpie Nests for sale, beautifully curated collections of vintage goods, sometimes with a theme sometimes not, in a range of sizes so everyone can experience the joy of old things not going to waste.
Where should I start on the site?
A great way to start on Woolly Truckle is to head straight to the pattern collections, both free and paid for, as this will give you a sense of the Woolly Truckle aesthetic and style. If you see anything you like (especially the free stuff!) then you can download it straightaway or book mark the page. Then I’d read a couple of blog posts, they range in length and subject matter so choose something small like (insert post link here) if you are pushed for time, or go for something longer such as (insert post link here) if you’re sitting comfortably. This gives you the opportunity to decide whether you like my “voice”. Do I talk about a subject in a way than resonates with you? Do you like the tone I use to talk with you? Am I reassuring, motivational or inspiring? Do I make you feel like you could do this too? (In which case what’s stopping you? Click here to get your own website started with Bluehost!). What will you gain from stopping off at Woolly Truckle?
Then finally I’d head to the shop, do you know anyone who would like a Magpie Nest as a birthday or Christmas treat? Do you want one for yourself, you do deserve to have things that make you happy even when it isn’t a holiday or celebration – I promise, it’s okay to covet your very own Nest!
I hope you have fun exploring the site – go and sign up – it will definitely grow and grow and I would love you to go grow with it.
You can follow Woolly Truckle on Instagram too – same name so you can search OR click on this link right here.
